March 12-16

Parent Teacher Conferences are this Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-7:15. I hope to see every parent this week. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and where they need to be for second grade. Tuesday times are appointed, but Thursday times are flexible. Please let me know if you need to make any changes or need a private conference time.

Roaring Springs reading log is due before spring break. Your child must have read 600 additional minutes to qualify for a day pass at Roaring Springs. I will accept any reading log you have kept, if you have lost the one I sent home.

We are still in need of glue for our classroom. Please bring in one bottle of Elmer's glue and one glue stick when you come to conferences.

Homework
Spelling words are from our Open Court stories. Please review these words nightly so that your child will be successful on their spelling test on Friday.

Reading homework is to READ! I am sending home our 4th quarter sight words, some phonics skills practice sheets and some fluency reads. Spend 10-15 minutes a night listening to your child read.
Games is our new unit topic. I encourage you to play one game this week with your child (outside, card or board games). We will be discussing different games and how to play them. We may even create our own game! If all goes well this week and next, we will be performing a mini play called "The Great Ball Game" next Thursday. I will send home more information next Monday.

Math skills to be working on are making numbers, finding all the combinations for numbers 5-9; addition facts and story problems. Many games are great for practicing math skills. Continue to practice skip counting and counting to 120, starting at any given number.
